Purpose: Supervisor position responsible for ensuring smooth daily store operations and a well-maintained store appearance. Responsible for supervising staff at satellite store, and ordering all product for the store to achieve sales/profitability, labor efficiency, inventory and margin objectives and other standards established by the General Manager. Supervisory position responsible for providing leadership and vision to help achieve organizational goals.

Status: Level VI (salaried), Store Manager, Report to: General Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL MANAGERIAL
- Monitor adherence to budget. Submit to GM for approval for anticipated overages.
- Participate in annual budget process.
- Attend weekly management meetings. Attend Council and Committee meetings as directed by the General Manager.
- Ensure on the job training for staff including requiring them to participate in our HR and Customer service training programs.
- Ensure development of weekly schedules for store that cover all store needs within labor budget.
- On call for scheduling, security and facilities emergencies.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the differences between cooperatives and other businesses.
- Ensure integrity of GreenStar's Mission Statement.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Achieve budgeted sales and margins for sub departments.
- Achieve budgeted Sales Per Labor Hours/ Labor as % of sales targets.
- Keep supplies and equipment purchases within budget.
- If budgets are not achieved, the Collegetown Store Manager must make appropriate corrective action to meet these budgets.
- Ensure invoices are coded and submitted a timely manner, following protocol.
PURCHASING
- Ensure staff negotiates with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.
- Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply along with department buyers.
- Ensure orders are received in accordance with established procedures.
- Ensure buyers maintain appropriate stock levels and accuracy.
- Trains and operates our POS system, works with Information Technology Manager to maintain proper cost and pricing of items to ensure margin performance.
MERCHANDISING
- Ensure shelves are fully stocked and rotated to ensure products are fresh and in date.
- Ensure displays and shelves are clean and well organized.
- Collegetown Manager is aware of product trends and fulfills customer requests within reason.
- Ensure that all products are accurately labeled for description and price including accurate sales signage.
- Participates fully in all relevant promotional vehicles (BASICS program, Coop Deals, In Store sales, Member Sales etc.).
- Ensures products meet product guideline requirements.
- Perform periodic product maintenance reviews, tracking slow moving items and making changes to product lines accordingly.
- Conduct periodic comparisons with competitors.
- Schedule, plan and facilitate any large or small resets in the store as they relate to product placement, shelving and equipment.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Provide ongoing training for staff regarding front-end systems, customer service, storewide systems and GreenStar product lines.
- Train staff in security procedures.
- Maintain list of telephone numbers needed to handle equipment and physical plant emergencies, in coordination with the General Manager and Information Technology Director.
- Assist accounting dept in collecting on bad checks as needed
- Ensure accuracy and security of all cash
- Ensure friendly customer service at all times.
- Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
- Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
- Help customers place special orders.
DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
- Coordinate storage of items on and off store site.
- Ensure that Collegetown's retail and storage areas are clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
- Prepare for and ensure accuracy of inventory counts.
- Ensure maintenance of all store equipment. Ensure, along with Facilities Dept., that equipment is kept in clean/working order. Advise General Manager of foreseeable equipment problems or needs.
- Communicate with Building maintenance and or management about any building related facility or security related issues.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow GreenStar safety rules.
- Assist other employees in safety needs.
- Correct unsafe equipment and conditions, or report to Operations Manager.
- Assist with safety training needs.
- Participate in safety training programs, assist with accident investigation.
- Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
STAFF RELATIONS
- Maintain good working relationships with other staff.
- Follow personnel policies and procedures as set out in the Employee Handbook and by the Management Team.
- Ensure that communications with other staff are clear, direct and respectful.
- Treat staff and managers with consistency and fairness, in a style appropriate to a cooperative work environment.
SUPERVISORY
- Hire qualified applicants following established policy/procedures.
- Ability to fill in for all staffing positions and perform daily tasks related to those positions.
- Document and update procedures, systems and checklists for all supervised positions. Keeping current procedure manuals for all positions.
- Take disciplinary action as needed, following existing policy/procedures.
- Provide ongoing supervision to DeWitt Staff - including conducting periodic evaluations, offering suggestions for growth and development and assistance in attaining established goals.
- Ensure compliance of all retail department personnel with established policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Model supportive and participatory leadership qualities, promoting team building and motivating staff to achieve department goals.
- Hold regular department meetings.
- Conduct timely performance evaluations.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a comparable management-level position.
- Extensive supervisory experience: hiring, training, evaluating, disciplinary action, goal setting.
- Ability to read and interpret department financial reports.
- Highly organized, demonstrated consistent follow through on commitments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - both verbal and written.
- Organized -- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Familiarity with issues of diversity, discrimination, harassment and participation in the workplace.
- Computer skills: current word-processing, spreadsheet, database, POS a plus
- Knowledge of current trends in the natural foods industry.
