JOB OVERVIEW
The Computer and Information Systems (CIS) Manager will plan, coordinate, and implement computer-related activities by determining the technology needs of the City of Mandan and make hardware- and software-related decisions to meet those needs.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Collaborates with users, vendors, technicians, and managers to understand and assess computing and system needs and requirements.
- Communicates the goals, policies, and procedures of the City of Mandan, develops plans to implement these needs
- Evaluates current and future technology use and needs of the City of Mandan and recommends software and hardware improvements.
- Responsible for backup, security, and user help systems.
- Remains current on advances in technology.
- Provides technical support to users.
- Prepares and delivers operational or project progress reports.
- Implements and oversees operational budget and expenditures.
- Develops budget information for city information technology needs.
- Purchases, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and updates IT hardware including desktops, servers, switches, printers, and scanners.
- Manages user accounts for network access, data storage, and email.
- Manages city and department internet domain addresses.
- Maintains inventory of computers, monitors, cabling, software, and other hardware.
- Manages the city phone network.
- Manages the city’s off-site backup software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of IT programs, policies, activities, and procedures.
- Knowledge of budget preparation and management principles.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and implementing IT programs and activities.
- Skill in understanding and interpreting policies and procedures.
- Skill in the maintenance of network, software, and server needs.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to explain technical problems and implement solutions to those without technological training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study of computer science, or related field is preferred.
- Experience sufficient in computer science, software updates, and server infrastructure planning, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience is preferred.
