GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director System Nursing Informatics serves as strategic liaison for health information representing the workforce by collaborating with nursing, medical staff and technology in the assessment, implementation and evaluation of information technology solutions that impact the practice of professional nursing and clinical care delivery.
The Director System Nursing Informatics creates and maintains the processes by which Aspirus Health targets regular electronic health record (EHR) improvements using a governance structure that includes key stakeholders throughout the system.
The Director System Nursing Informatics will design and optimize clinical workflows leveraging technology to achieve clinical efficiency, care variation reduction, and growth. This role will be expected to design roadmaps that are aligned with the strategic goals of Aspirus Health, objectives of the nursing care model, and in meeting regulatory, accreditation and organizational quality of care and safety standards.
The Director System Nursing Informatics is a domain expert in the use of IT to transform nursing practice and maintains in-depth knowledge of healthcare topics, evidence-based nursing practice, technology, and analytics.
The Director System Nursing Informatics leads with a system-thinking perspective driving change management to ensure successful adoption while maximizing the value of technology investments that support clinical care. The Director System Nursing Informatics is responsible for the management of the nursing informatics practice and promotes an environment where all nursing staff can flourish through professional development, improvement in workflow, optimization of talent and resources, implementation and validation of best practices, consistent and clear communication including closed loop feedback, real time coaching, support of high
reliability methods and tools, and creating opportunities for staff to have a voice in decisions that impact practices.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All functions are conducted in the context of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships in support of Aspirus Inc. and organizations goals.
Director Duties and Responsibilities
● Articulates and communicates the department’s role and involvement in support of Aspirus system and business unit imperatives, strategic operating plan (SOP), pillars, and system performance improvement, patient safety, and risk management plan.
● Combines knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts and change management to effectively address the information knowledge needs of the organization to promote the safe and effective delivery of patient care.
● Works with leaders and teams to establish aligned goals, metrics (leading and lagging) and clearly defined targets to achieve desired outcomes.
● Demonstrates knowledge of healthcare economics and policy including risk adjustment, reimbursement, alternate payment models, and value-based care.
● Articulates and models an emphasis on clinical quality and patient safety (high reliability).
● Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key stakeholders and operational leaders internal and external to the organization.
● Communicates effectively with all internal and external constituents, including staff, colleagues, and physicians.
● Creates an environment that recognizes and values diversity and designs strategies that address the unique needs of a diverse workforce, patient population, and community. Role-Specific Duties and Responsibilities
● Researches and proposes solutions that support technology-enabled patient engagement processes and tools that can alleviate patient and caregiver burden.
● Incorporates Aspirus Health mission, vision, and values into goals of the nursing informatics program.
● Works closely with key stakeholders to ensure that the EHR supports optimized clinical workflows to enhance safety, high quality care, and conform to evolving external standards of best practice.
● Maintains a working knowledge of current trends and issues in nursing informatics to include clinical efficiency, workflow optimization and performance improvement, population health, health data analytics, patient safety, and regulatory and accreditation.
● Development of nursing Informatics initiatives to improve patient satisfaction.
● Leads or participates in system initiatives involving enhancing technology in the delivery of nursing care.
● Supports system functional teams, nursing affinity teams, nursing shared governance councils, and the clinical systems committee.
● Participates in the informatics community through ongoing professional development.
● Participates in initiatives that support the system objective of unification and transformation.
● Participates actively in quality and patient safety objectives that promote care model redesign, professional growth, clinical quality, workflow efficiency, resource optimization, staff engagement, and high reliability.
● Applies knowledge of clinical care, practice standards, decision support, patient safety, and regulatory requirements to workflow design supported by technology.
● Provides the value proposition for technology enables process, tools, workflows that support patient quality and safety.
● Continually assesses all nursing services, identifies problems, utilizes data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Education
● Valid and current Wisconsin or Michigan registered nurse license or compact license.
● Bachelor’s degree in nursing from accredited school required (BSN).
● Master’s degree in nursing or informatics required.
● Master’s degree in information systems is optional.
● Certification in nursing leadership or informatics highly desired.
● Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Practice preferred (DNP).
Licensure & Certifications
● A valid and current Wisconsin or Michigan registered nurse license or compact license is required.
● Epic certification in clinical modules is highly desired.
● ANCC certification in healthcare informatics is highly desired.
● Membership of professional associations (e.g., HIMMS, ACHE, etc.) desired.
Experience
● Minimum five years direct clinical care.
● Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a progressive informatics leadership position within an integrated healthcare system.
● Extensive experience working with Epic core systems.
● Demonstrated success in leading teams.
● Demonstrated success driving the adoption of innovative IT capabilities resulting in significant realized value.
● Demonstrated success leading the design, development, configuration, support, and adoption of large and enterprise-wide solutions including examples where leading without direct authority was a critical success factor.
● Demonstrated success in the use of data to drive operational improvements and efficiencies.

● Demonstrates leadership and complex organizational management skills.
