PVD Prep is a 5th through 8th grade college preparatory, tuition-free public charter school for Providence, Rhode Island. The mission of our school is to prepare a diverse group of Providence middle school students for college preparatory high schools. Our commitments are as follows:

This is where you come in. PVD Prep seeks a passionate and highly skilled Upper School Instructional Dean who is willing and able to move mountains for the PVD Prep raptors. To be excellent in this role you will:

Your specific duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Instructional coaching (60%)

  • Serve as the primary instructional coach for 7th and 8th grade teachers across all content areas, providing frequent classroom observations, actionable feedback, and unwavering support for excellent instruction in every subject.
  • Co-plan, co-teach, and model rigorous, culturally responsive lessons that are standards aligned and designed to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Facilitate individualized coaching cycles with teachers, using student work and assessment data to drive instructional decisions and professional growth.
  • Coach teachers to build classroom cultures rooted in academic urgency, joy, and a strong sense of belonging for every student.
  • Support teachers in designing, adapting, and delivering unit and lesson plans that are engaging, standards-based and accessible to all students.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning to analyze instructional trends across classrooms and use findings to plan targeted coaching, professional learning sessions and curriculum adjustments.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to support teacher onboarding, schoolwide instructional initiatives, and academic intervention planning.

School Culture (20%)

  • Model how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families; coaching and supporting teachers in doing the same.
  • Uphold positive standards for school culture. Support and coach teachers on the vision for multiple key school systems including but not limited to arrival, breakfast, advisory, transitions, lunch, recess and dismissal.
  • Drive fidelity of school culture systems across the school, including behavior management and restorative practices. This includes but is not limited to PREP Bucks, hallway resets, opportunity time and consistent, strengths-based family engagement.

Team Leadership (20%)

  • Plan and lead a weekly team meeting with 5th and 6th grade teachers to surface and coordinate specific lower school needs (report cards cycles, signature experiences, etc)
  • and
  • Plan, execute and reflect on community meetings, advisory periods and other culture building opportunities
  • Collaborating on and executing a yearlong calendar of events and activities that ensure all students feel seen, celebrated and bought-in to PVD Prep (e.g. spirit days, academic awards, Black History Month, 100th day of school, etc.)
  • At the discretion of the Leadership Team, take on any additional responsibilities that advance our mission, uphold our vision, and reflect the values of PVD Prep .

  • have a Bachelor’s degree (required) or Master’s degree (preferred)
  • have at least 3–5 years of successful K–8 teaching experience, with a strong track record of impact
  • have at least one year of experience in instructional coaching, teacher leadership, or academic leadership
  • are eligible for RIDE Administrator Certification, or open to pursuing one
  • have exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills
  • bring a growth mindset and an unwavering belief in the potential of all students
