About Falls of the Ohio State Park:

The Falls of the Ohio State Park is designated as a National Natural Landmark and part of the Falls of the Ohio National Wildlife Conservation Area. Located on the banks of the Ohio River, the 390-million-year-old fossil beds are among the largest exposed Devonian fossil beds in the world. The park provides educational programs that draw educators and school groups to the Interpretive Center and park features. The most popular park activities are bird watching, fishing, fossil viewing, hiking, and picnicking.

 

Role Overview

The individual in the Maintenance Repair position is responsible for the overall performance of Falls of the Ohio State Park's maintenance program. This position will provide leadership and guidance to staff and visitors alike, directly overseeing both a full-time maintenance position and intermittent labor positions. This position requires an understanding of technology to operate and navigate a computer, utilize the general Microsoft package, and locate and identify repair parts. This position must also be able to cover the Falls front desk and operate a POS system. This position is responsible for operating both light and heavy machinery and being proficient with hand tools and a chainsaw. This position must be able to make sound judgment calls.  This position will rotate working weekends and will normally work from 9 am to 5 pm. This position will also be asked to work special events and the times could vary.  Finally, this position is assigned to Falls of the Ohio State Park, but this position may be asked to help at Charlestown or complete tasks at Charlestown State Park.

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Diagnose and repair various maintenance issues.
  • Maintain service and maintenance records.
  • Purchase required parts, tools, and supplies according to State policy.
  • Repair buildings and structures.
  • Assist with snow removal.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Working knowledge of various trades including masonry, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Working knowledge of radio communications and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate safety precautions needed for a variety of repairs.
  • Ability to use a variety of automotive, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tools for routine maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records. 
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide self-motivation.
  • Ability to read and follow guidelines and blueprints to complete construction projects.
  • Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.

     

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
