JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Welder I stands as a crucial asset within Choctaw Defense Manufacturing (CDMFG), playing a pivotal role in the meticulous execution of welding operations across diverse metals. This entry-level position requires a candidate who is deeply dedicated to precision and craftsmanship, possessing a foundational comprehension of welding techniques and safety protocols. Proficiency across various welding techniques and a proactive approach to skill enhancement through training initiatives are paramount. Working under close supervision, the Welder I collaborates closely with Welders II & III to support daily operations ensuring efficiency and accuracy within the welding department. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn to proficiently execute welding operations on aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless-steel utilizing gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), including mastery of small-scale processes.
  • Undertake the meticulous setup of welding apparatus, precisely calibrating equipment to exacting specifications requisite for each project.
  • Establish cable connections from the welding unit to attain specified parameters, encompassing amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, ensuring precise control and adherence to standards.
  • Exemplify professional standards by expertly guiding the electrode or gun along the weld line, ensuring precise control over the arc length and movement speed for achieving specified fusion depth and bead characteristics. Evaluation includes factors such as metal color, weld sound, and molten puddle size.
  • Master the execution of welding operations in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions with a high level of precision.
  • Systematically inspects welds to ensure compliance with specified bead size and additional stringent welding specifications.
  • Precisely aligns and secures workpieces by positioning and clamping together, or by meticulously assembling jigs/fixtures, adhering to professional standards.
  • Methodically chooses torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux based on welding chart specifications or material thickness, ensuring precision in welding processes.
  • Thoroughly removes weld slag or splatter by chipping off excess, ensuring a smooth finish within the welding process.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on all welding equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and longevity.
  • Execute stringent quality control measures, meticulously scrutinizing welds for accuracy, structural integrity, and compliance with contract specifications.
  • Adhere unfailingly to organizational policies, procedures, and quality assurance protocols, promptly reporting any anomalies or concerns to the Welding Production Supervisor.
  • Participate ardently in training and professional development initiatives, endeavoring ceaselessly to augment welding proficiency and expertise.
  • Performs all other duties assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to pass pre-employment basic welder qualification test administered by CDMFG personnel.
  • Foundational understanding of welding techniques and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to uphold company values and adhere to ethical standards in decision-making and daily work responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and fulfill commitments.
  • Take initiative to communicate and address challenges, contributing to a culture of accountability.
  • Proficient in employing methods such as deburring, grinding, beveling, and mechanically cleaning parts using air tools and electric grinders.
  • Demonstrated expertise in various welding techniques, ensuring accurate, and quality welds.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing tape measures, calipers, and protractors for accurate measurements and fabrication tasks.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma/GED or:
    1. One (1) year experience related to welding.
      • Equivalent education and experience may be considered in lieu of a diploma/GED.

PREFERRED:

  • Completion of a welding training program or relevant certification.
  • Two (2) years of experience related to welding.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, usually for a period of ten (10) hours a day, four (4) days a week, or more.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department within Choctaw Defense Manufacturing’s facilities.
  • Ability to lift or transport items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds individually, with frequent collaboration for team lifts involving lifting or transporting products weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Necessary vision abilities encompassing close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and capacity to adjust focus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Noise level mirrors that of a standard manufacturing plant and can range from moderate to high.
